Virginia: New continuation of coverage of health insurance disqualification rules go into effect
July 1, 2018
On March 23, 2018, Governor Northam signed House Bill 1217. This law disqualifies employees who have been terminated form employment due to gross misconduct from continuation of health insurance coverage under their former employer’s policy. This disqualification may not prohibit the employee from continuation of coverage under the federal Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA).
The new law becomes effective on July 1, 2018.
