Maryland: Subminimum wage for employees with disabilities is discontinued
October 1, 2020
On October 1, 2020, employers will no longer be able to pay employees with disabilities a wage lower than minimum wage. Work activities centers or workshops will only be allowed to pay employees with disabilities less than the federal prevailing wage to the extent authorized by federal law when:
- the subminimum wage was authorized by the Commissioner of the Division of Labor and Industry before October 1, 2016; and
- the work activities center or workshop maintains their required federal certificate.
